Our Saturday night dinner at Boonie's was great all around. We tried this restaurant for the first time and as soon as we got there we were seated (arrived a little early for our reservation). Service was quick and helpful, and the restaurant itself looks very nice inside. Their food is delicious. We picked 4 plates for two people and were stuffed by the end. I highly recommend the Lumpiang and the Sizzling Sisig. For vegetarians I highly recommend the pancit canton. Overall, a great experience and I'll definitely be back!
I was very excited to try out Bonnie’s but we left rather disappointed. We went during lunch time and ordered lumpia, coconut butter shrimp silog and marinated ribeye silog. Lumpia was mid, crispy shell but filling was just meat, lack veggies which could have help with the saltiness. For silogs, the garlic rice taste pretty good but there are burnt garlic pieces that gave a bitter taste. The fried egg didn’t come with any seasoning and the egg white was still clear, maybe it could have been avoided if the server ask us how we would like our eggs. Marinated ribeye was mid, not as juicy as hope. The shrimp was juicy but the sauce is mediocre, I expected it to be more creamy and coconut-y. We also got a drink named Gina juice that we thought was house made but it was actually a can beverage, I wish it was indicated in the menu.
Overall, we wouldn’t come back because for the price, it wasn’t worth it.
Boonie’s is sooo incredible! We visited for lunch and tried the Bangsilog (milkfish) and Mushroom silog rice plates, along with a special pork appetizer. All dishes left us utterly amazed—the garlic rice and milkfish were well flavored, and the mushroom was perfectly crispy and fragrant. To cap off the meal, we had the Halo Halo for dessert, which was a decadent and delightful treat.
The restaurant has a lovely and upscale design with a modern flair. The service was very efficient and incredibly friendly. We're excited to return in the near future to explore more of their menu offerings, especially their dinner selection.
Update: We returned to explore their dinner menu! The Sizzling Sisig stood out with its incredibly flavorful pork pieces. Another highlight was the Piaparan, featuring tender Lion’s Mane mushrooms and well-layered spices. The chicken Inasal was decent, but I found the Liempo's BBQ sauce a bit too strong for my taste. Between the two offerings, I must admit that I preferred the lunch menu, both for its value and the dishes offered, though both menus provide a wide range of unique Filipino flavors and were both highly enjoyable.
We were so so so surprised with how amazing our experience was here! The food was above and beyond in terms of quality and taste... And the small touches were the best - they gave a signed birthday card after finding out it was a birthday... And after we paid the server she dropped off yellow kiwi pieces and we never heard of yellow kiwi before. Overall a fun place for dinner! Kain tayo!
I have heard much about Boonies, especially how the restaurant is run, not like the typical Filipino way. It was immediately evident that they were open when they say they are and was asked if there was any food allergies or restrictions. Nice touch! The space is very modern, warm and inviting, HUGE plus if you want to attract more than the filipino crowd.
This place is a solid 4.4 stars for their lunch menu. I have been to many of these restaurants so I feel I know what I like and what to look for. Starting with the lumpia(ng) Shanghai; it was very tasty albeit slightly oily than others I have had. Also, size kinda matters and was a bit shorter than usual.
For the silog, had the tapa and the tocino with garlic rice and and sunny-side up egg. Again very good, however, if garlic is not your thing, this was roasted garlic heavy, which I don’t mind. The ratio though of protein (ulam) to rice was a bit underwhelming.
Lastly, pricing is a bit steep, but I guess in order to be in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, this is acceptable. I still enjoyed the visit!!
Smaller portions than other restaurants, which is good since the dishes were all very tasty. The atmosphere was relaxed with dimmed lighting.
We went for brunch. It did not disappoint. Growing up with these meals, Boonies served my taste buds with my child hood flavors and then some. My partner enjoyed the tocilog (pork shoulder) while I had the bansilog (milkfish). We plan to be back!
Food came out fast and service was attentive. Water glasses always full.
Thank you!
I recently had the chance to visit this restaurant, where we sampled six different dishes, all of which were incredibly delicious. The servings follow a tapas-style concept, so I'd suggest ordering a variety of dishes. The service was excellent, and I'd highly recommend making a reservation, particularly because they've earned a spot on the Michelin Gourmand list. I'll have to return to give the lunch menu a try.
Here’s a list of my favorite dishes.
1. Sizzling Sisig
2. Chicken Inasal
3. Pancit Canton
4. Bistek
5. Lumpia
6. Liempo
